Abstract
The Cover of the current issue of the Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics (SJP) pays tribute to the two Sudanese/British consultants who gave their lives fighting coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Britain. Dr. Adil El Tayar (left photo), Consultant Kidney and Pancreatic Transplant Surgeon, was the first working National Health Service (NHS) Surgeon who died from coronavirus and Dr. Amged El-Hawrani (right photo), Sudanese/British ENT consultant, was the first confirmed hospital frontline worker in UK who died from COVID-19 (See Editorial). The photos overlay the pyramids of the Napta/Meroitic Kingdom (800BC–350AD), reflecting the heritage of Sudan deep in civilisation. The Napta/Meroitic Kingdom had a strong iron industry and international trade with China and India (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Mero%C3%AB). Also shown is the Meroitic script, the indigenous alphabet consisting of 23 letters, which has been developed in the Naptan Period at about 700–300BC. The Arabic script of the ‘Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics’, reflecting the current main language and culture, was designed at the College of Fine and Applied Arts, Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST), by Taha El Atta, PhD.
